BANKING WITH BANK$
Yesterday... my ace Annette "put me on" to artist Banks...Honestly with the name Banks I didn't know what to expect... After listening to a few songs I was completely engaged and texted her back with plenty thanks. I love my friends! Today I decided to find some more music and I came across Bank's soundcloud . digging this one! Warm Water Snakehips Remix ...
Black Friday - Cyber Monday The Start to my GREAT weekend
So today was a good GREAT day! I slept in till 9am...my body really needed those few extra hours. I read a few devotionals out of my Love Language Minute Devotional by Gary Chapman. Honestly it is not a book I would buy from the bookstore but my mom gave me this book a year ago as a gift...I never really followed through with reading it daily but I am happy I picked it up again. I find great Bible verses that encourage me to sit and reflect from time to time. Around 11:30 in the afternoon Jared and I rode down into town to pick up my Vitacost package from the post office... Total awesomeness ... I ordered 3 Aubrey Conditioners, 2 Aubrey Gels, Aztec Bentonite Clay, Dr. Woods Liquid Soap and some lovely natural organic cotton feminine products! I am already putting together another shopping cart online of things I am going to order probably next week. I also did 4 loads of laundry, made a banging ass turkey sandwich, and sat on the couch with my boo thang HAH! Jared actu
Sail Out
So a few years ago my bestfriend put me onto Jhene Aiko...and I love her for that! lol Two weeks ago Annette(my bestfriend) told me that the album dropped and I should listen to it. So happy I did because this album was on heavy rotation for a week. Kinda had to wean myself off of it ...like it were coffee or something lol.
Montessori to Magens
Bottom right corner sporting my Ky-Tie-Dye tank! This weekend I accomplished something I never thought I could do....I ran well let me rephrase that lol jogged/walked 8 miles. The event was named M2M which is short for Montessori to Magens <----check out the facebook page All proceeds went to the American Red Cross, and Virgin Islands Mothers Against Guns. I was so proud of myself because I hadn't been training at all for this road race...the last time I really ran was in Prospect Park this past September. I was so unsure about this race.... I waited till the last week to go sign-up...But I kinda surprised myself when I finished in 1 hour & 48 mins which isn't too bad...that is about 13 minute miles. ehhhhh not the greatest but again I hadn't ran in what felt like forever... Next year I plan on running this race again... with the hopes to better my time.
Home Design Ideas
BOY!!! It has been a while since I have posted anything on here... I have been so caught up in the current wave ...haven't made much time for my hobbies smh! Today I realized that needs to change... so I will re-commit to blogging again!!! BUT.... One social media site I have been quite active on is Pinterest (check out my profile...buttons to the top and bottom of page) Lately I have been drafting together a few ideas for an upcoming facelift to a few of our living spaces and I have gotten a lot of my ideas from Pinterest! Pinterest has so many great contributors I thank them all! Check it out my Home Design board on Pinterest!! Follow Home Design by missfunkadelic on Pinterest
Plotting in the tropics
So happy to be back in the VI…although I enjoyed my summer in the states I must say it feels good to be back home. I am looking forward to hitting the beach soon. Today might actually be the perfect day being that it is 92 degrees out! Here is something for you to listen to, I love anything Lana Del Rey!
Fukushima is being called "Humankind's Most Dangerous Moment" since the Cuban Missile Crisis
via OpedNews We are now within two months of what may be humankind’s most dangerous moment since the Cuban Missile Crisis. There is no excuse for not acting. All the resources our species can muster must be focussed on the fuel pool at Fukushima Unit 4. Fukushima’s owner, Tokyo Electric (Tepco), says that within as few as 60 days it may begin trying to remove more than 1300 spent fuel rods from a badly damaged pool perched 100 feet in the air. The pool rests on a badly damaged building that is tilting, sinking and could easily come down in the next earthquake, if not on its own. Some 400 tons of fuel in that pool could spew out more than 15,000 times as much radiation as was released at Hiroshima. The one thing certain about this crisis is that Tepco does not have the scientific, engineering or financial resources to handle it. Nor does the Japanese government. The situation demands a coordinated worldwide effort of the best scientists and engineers our species can muster.
And who thought this was a good idea?
Fired Paraguayan bus drivers have themselves nailed to crosses ASUNCION- Eight Paraguayan bus drivers have had themselves nailed to crosses to protest being fired by a transportation company after it rejected their plea for higher pay, a lawmaker said on Friday. The drivers, from the northern town of Luque, are on their backs, nailed to wooden crosses laid out on the ground. Large nails pierce their hands at the base of the fingers. They said they took the action in a desperate bid to be heard. They have been nailed down for 15 days, according to Olga Ferreira de Lopez, a member of Paraguay's House of Congress who is monitoring the situation. "There have been infections ... . Their state of health is getting complicated," she told Reuters. Some of the drivers' wives are taking turns being nailed to crosses alongside their husbands. via Reuters link: http://preview.reuters.com/news/oddly-enough Ummmm… A bit extreme? I think so… but what blew
Fukushima's contaminated water may have reached the Pacific Ocean??? Say What!
Japan formally raises Fukushima water leak to INES Level 3 incident via REUTERS/Tokyo Electric Power Co. The upgrade by Japan's Nuclear Regulation Authority (NRA) raises the rating of what was Japan's first warning on the International Nuclear and Radiological Event Scale (INES) since the three reactor meltdowns at the Fukushima plant in March 2011, which were triggered by a massive earthquake and tsunami. Those meltdowns were classified as Level 7, the highest INES rating. The plant's operator, Tokyo Electric Power Co, said last week that 300 metric tons (330.69 tons) of highly radioactive water leaked from a storage tank at the facility. The utility still does not know how long the water may have been leaking and said it was possible the contaminated water may have reached the Pacific Ocean.
Interview with Vaughn Benjamin
So I came across this awesome interview with one of my favorite artists Vaughn Benjamin of the band Midnite . In this article Vaughn and King Toby talk about many things from music, biochemistry, culture, history and much more. Check it out! Below is clip from the transcript. King Toby: And we saw His Majesty build up hospitals and, you know what I mean, education, all over Ethiopia, and sending students internationally to learn about technology and all these things. So, we Give Thanks. On the levels of where we started talking about vibes and good relations to, you know what I mean, technology now, we see ones caught up in this social media, Facebook, and just like drawing away from the humanistic aspect of being, you know, being InI. How does the I see technology playing that role in terms of InI relations now? Vaughn Benjamin: Well, it gives people a deeper place to hide , and still there’s not anywhere to hide when you have intrusion and… you have spiritual dishones
Fight Through The Pain
So I came across this AWESOME video while on Facebook…and man did I need this because I started to slack off. I haven't been running in a few days. But after watching this video I felt like putting on my running shoes and jetting out the door. Only thing is…it's 3:40am. May not be the best time to go running lol... so instead I decided to do some indoor exercises. This video is: Motivation to finish that workout!! Increase the intensity of your workout! Or maybe start a workout! Whichever it may be you will be motivated. Check it out!
The Amazing Grasshopper Mouse
So I have a soft spot for small rodents…matter a fact I have a gerbil. lol Meet Smuggles! Well let me rephrase that I have a soft spot for domesticated rodents…you know hamsters and gerbils..nothing else! I was watching Bad Ass Animals on Nat Geo Wild and they had a segment on the Grasshopper Mouse ..boy oh boy in this short clip you can see the Grasshopper Mouse in action..
Osho talks about creativity
"If you want to create you have to get rid of all conditionings otherwise your creativity will be nothing but copy, it will be just a carbon copy. You can be creative only if you are an individual you cannot create as part of the mob psychology. The creators cannot travel the well traveled path he has to search his own way…he has to be a drop out from the mob mind, from the collective psychology"
Osho Talks about God and religion
So this video may be a little deep for those of you who are not familiar with Osho. But I feel the need to share it because I myself get a bit perplexed when talking about religion. While I do have religious background, I was raised going to church…matter-a-fact at one point I was attending church 3x a week. (not saying that it was a bad or good thing) First let me state I am not here to bash your religion because we all have the freedom to think and believe what we want. Over the years I've learned that denomination doesn't merit anything. You can switch your beliefs, attend several churches and still find yourself empty. It took me a while to realize that the peace I was searching for was within me the whole time. And while I still enjoy going to church once in a while and reading certain books in The Bible, Proverbs in particular... I find that being rooted in love first keeps me from going astray. In this video a woman questions Osho's statement "There is
Prescription Medication Addiction
CNN's Dr. Sanjay Gupta talks about prescription medication addiction: via Google "Every 19 minutes someone dies because of misuse of prescription medications. Sometimes it is because they take too much. Many times it is because they forget or ignore the warning their doctor gave about combining the medications with alcohol. And tens of thousands of people die every year as a result. As much attention as we pay to illicit drugs such as cocaine or heroin, the truth is prescription medications kill more people in this country than those illicit drugs combined . Perhaps it is a perception issue: “It came from a pharmacy, therefore, it must be safe.” They certainly can be safe, but they can also be incredibly addictive, with more than 1.9 million Americans hooked on prescription pain medications alone". via CNN These numbers are shocking… I personally avoid taking prescription medications…not even over the counter meds like
Peace of Mind
This is one of my favorite Lauryn Hill songs… I Gotta Find Peace of Mind "To finally be in love , and know the real meaning of A lasting relationship , not based on ownership I trust every part of you, cuz all that I... All that you say you do You love me despite myself, sometimes I fight myself I just can't believe that you, would have anything to do With someone so insecure, someone so immature Oh you inspire me , to be the higher me"
Goat terrorizes Brazilian neighborhood
While I will admit I got a few good laughs watching this goat terrorize a neighborhood in Brazil. I also felt bad for the goat! In this video the goat is seen rushing at people walking near by, the goat even knocks a woman and man down. The video ends with a few men tackling the goat and tying the goat up. Wow! Who knew goats could be that volatile? http://now.msn.com/goat-terrorizes-brazilian-neighborhood-in-crazy-video
Not so NAKED
via Google So the Naked Juice company owned by Pepsi admits that their juices are not 100% natural. Hmm does not surprise me much, I mean come on the company is owned by Pepsi. But hopefully this will push Pepsi towards making a true natural juice. "PepsiCo Inc. says it will NO longer label its Naked juices as being "all natural" after a lawsuit complained that the drinks contain ingredients that don't fit that bill. The company, based in Purchase, N.Y., is also paying $9 million to settle the lawsuit. PepsiCo did not respond when asked whether those synthetic fibers are in fact included in the juices. The company's statement said it will drop the use of the word "natural" until there is more regulatory guidance around the world. The case highlights the confusion around the use of the word "natural" in in the industry. The Food and Drug Administration doesn't currently have a definition for what constitutes a n
Have a question about GMO's
So The Council for Biotechnology Information decided that they would create a website that allows consumers to ask questions about GMO's. link: http://gmoanswers.com My take…how about these companies that use GMO's allow us (the consumers) to decide if we want GMO's by LABELING THEM! I personally do not support GMO's at all. I just think that we should allow nature to run it's intended course and not alter with anything especially food. And are we forgetting that Monsanto was responsible for agent orange… LET ME DECIDE IF I WANT GMO's PLEASE. I don't think a decade is enough time to decide that these crops are considered "safe". Their has not been enough long-term studies conducted on how GMO's affect the human body on a cellular level. So what can we do??? Support our local farmers Choose organic produce, especially if they are from the Dirty Dozen list. Do a cleanse at least once a year. And continue to educate those arou

FUNK Dat!

Getting OFF the grid? No such thing
No such thing as privacy…but we already knew this. "License plate readers are the most pervasive method of location tracking that nobody has heard of," said Catherine Crump, ACLU lawyer and lead author of the report. "They collect data on millions of Americans, the overwhelming number of whom are entirely innocent of any wrongdoing." Crump said that the creeping growth of license plate scanners echoed the debate over the National Security Agency. "It raises the same question as the NSA controversy: do we want to live in a world where the government makes a record of everything we do...
Kitchen Inspiration
Need a little inspiration in the kitchen? I came across this post and found so many recipes I want to try. link: www.thekitchn.com/eating-vegetarian-5-cooking-blogs-to-check-out-now-188840 I think first up is the VEGGIE NAAN'WICH WITH FETA CHICKPEA MASH via Sprouted Kitchen via Sprouted Kitchen I love Naans (Naan- an Indian bread) I sometimes buy the frozen naans…
What is going on over there
I am not trying to step on anyones toes here…but I found these articles quite interesting! The title alone is just cray! Squat Challenge
via google So my co-workers and I are going to join the party and do the 30 day squat challenge! This time I plan to actually finish the whole month. JOIN US! When I do squats I find it easier to place my hands behind my head rather than having them stretched out in front... there are many different techniques...but of them all POSTURE is VERY IMPORTANT! *An Important Tip Squatting with poor mechanics will result in injury. Squatting with added weight puts compressive forces on the spine. Why don’t we see more spinal blowouts at the gym? Luckily, our spine can adapt to compressive tolerance. But our spines need time to adapt. Take your time and allow this adaptation. To assist the process, build up your paraspinal muscles with exercises involving spinal extension and stabilization. via www.precisionnutrition.com/all-about-spinal-health Double check squat form: Take a wider stance (at least shoulder width – if not wider) Use natural foot positionin
Keeping Monsanto OUT of Your Garden!
via wakingtimes.com What most of these home gardeners don’t realize is that corporate behemoth and GMO titan Monsanto has been gobbling up the seed market faster than a caterpillar can munch a tomato plant! With one fell swoop in 2005, Monsanto grabbed approximately 40% of the US vegetable seed market with its acquisition of Seminis. This means that a home gardener could unknowingly be supporting the development and proliferation of genetically modified crops if the seeds used are from Seminis. In addition, Monsanto now apparently owns many of the names of the seed varieties themselves! Planting a sustainable home garden is much more than just choosing certified organic seeds and seedlings because Monsanto has cleverly positioned itself to make money off the home gardening trend. Does this mean that even if you buy organic or heirloom seeds from a completely independent company some of your purchase might be supporting the bad guys? Yes, it does. Buying Organic or
Russell Brand on MSNBC's show Morning Joe
Russell Brand takes over MSNBC's show Morning Joe and begins to mock the news anchors and staff seen in the background. This video is comical and quite entertaining! The look on the anchors faces throughout the whole interview was priceless. Check out the video at 5:05, Brand corrects the news anchor and stated: "You shouldn't say he when a person is present, you should refer to the person by their name. That is the basic good manners" Ouch! At 6:35 Brand takes over the show and quickly mentions whistle blowers Abel Snowden and Bradley Manning. Of course the anchors did not respond to Brand. But I applaud Brand for uncanny way of bring light to these situations. I've seen Russell Brand in LA while dinning at Katana in West Hollywood. While I did not get to meet him...his presence in the room was alluring. He is quite an entertainer and his new stand up comedy tour The Messiah Complex seems like it is going to be quite a show!
A few TED talks I enjoyed today...
http://on.ted.com/AlexLaskey Often times self motivation is difficult. Alex Laskey explains how behavioral science can lower your energy bill. Laskey helps power companies to help their customers cut down -- using data analysis, marketing and a pinch of psychology. http://on.ted.com/sarahkay Awesome poems! http://www.ted.com/talks/willard_wigan_hold_your_breath_for_micro_sculpture.html Willard Wigan tells the story of how a difficult and lonely childhood drove him to discover his unique ability to create art so tiny that it can't be seen with the naked eye. His slideshow of figures, as seen through a microscope, can only be described as mind-boggling. http://on.ted.com/BLACK Yoyo Master BLACK

These wafers should come with a warning label!
A SWEET TREAT! Back in my snack machine raging days lol… I loved Kit-Kat's and Snickers … And this wafer reminds me of a Kit-Kat BUT 10x better! So to anybody that likes Kit-Kat's but would like a healthier alternative I HIGHLY suggest you try Loacker wafers... There are so many kinds of Loacker Wafers there is lemon, vanilla, hazelnut, coconut and that is just to name a few. My favorite is the hazelnut flavor… I have tried the vanilla and chocolate flavors.. BUT nothing compares to the Gardena Hazelnut and the plain Hazelnut. Another reason why I love these wafers so much is that the Loacker company DOES NOT add any preservatives or artificial flavorings. The packaging also states that there is NO GMO! (that makes my heart smile) There are no colorings, nor hydrogenated fats! Of couse remember everything in moderation…because these wafers can be addicting WARNING! HIGH FIVE TO LOACKER! JOB WELL DONE!
