Stand The Test

Image
This album has been on a constant rotation for the past month! Midnite has released 50+ albums, Stand The Test is definitely in my top 5 Midnite Albums.  "The human said they to fill their lives up with fun, cause life is a comedy and tragedy some...  Rastafari bind up the broken heart in one" Midnite - Ina Zion  Album: Stand The Test I know they also just dropped yet another album titled "Ride Thru" ... can't wait to hear the full album! In the mean time here is a promo mix.

Carlos Latuff Cartoons

Image
Carlos Latuff is a talented cartoon artist who from Brazil. Latuff is widely known for referring to current events and politics in his art works.  He has touched on issues like Bayer rice lawsuit, legalization of marijuana, feminism and the most recent Ferguson case. These pieces will probably get your website and IP flagged by "babylon" just for sharing LOL! But this is art and it tells a story... how that story moves you is totally your perception... in which we are all entitled to. So CAUTION... proceed with an open mind. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- So far this is my favorite Latuff piece that I've titled "Mental Slavery" because it is so fitting. Don't cha' think?! I do not know if this piece actually has a name already. I cannot find an official print site with this image for sale... please share details if you have any.  I'd really like to have an offic

Funny comments on a CNN post

Image
Skimming through CNN's website and I came across an interesting article about the growing surfing community in Dakar, Africa.  The comments section made me chuckle, sooo o f course I up-voted commenter Morecore and Flatlandr's attempt to re-route the folks who may jump on the "surfing in Dakar" bandwagon after reading this article... lol! I'm no surfer but Dakar seems like a nice place visit!

M2M Road Race "8 Miles To The Beach"

Image
Welp, it is the day after and I am feeling the aches all over my body but... I still feel great! Yesterday, I physically and mentally survived Montessori to Magens ! It was tough but I was happy to knock 5 mins off my time from last year. This is such a wonderful community event held on St. Thomas and a portion of the proceeds go to VI Mothers Against Guns  and My Brother's Workshop . This year I sported my Curtis Kulig Special Edition LeSportsac Fanny Pack! Which was gifted to me this summer by my loving best friend Ann. Inside this glorious fanny I packed my iPhone, headphones, lip balm, an extra pair of socks (just in case it rained...I hate soggy feet) and a passionfruit (which I enjoyed while walking up Cassi Hill)!

And this is one of my biggest fears whenever I am in NYC

"A 61-year-old man was allegedly pushed onto the subway tracks in the Bronx on Sunday morning  when an incoming D train was approaching . The man was killed by the train and reports say that his wife watched on in horror." Well how horrible is this headline? Oh and it gets worse... " Emergency responders came to the scene but Wai Kuen Kwok could not be saved. According to police, the man who pushed Kwok did not know him, and the search has begun to find the suspect" Yes you read that correctly...they do not have the suspect. The crazies are out here, be careful.

Rules to love?

A couple days ago the Elephant Journal shared their 55 Rules For Love . My favorites from this list were: 1. When it arrives, cherish it. 6. Accept and forgive easily. 8. Never be too busy for each other. 19. Celebrate differences. 24. Learn and grow. 30. Instead of power, aim for balance. 31. Space is needed to breathe and to grow. 35. Don’t play mind games. 37. Don’t waste energy with negative thoughts. 43. Don’t just speak about it, show love. 44. Walk together, cook together, bathe together, read together. 47. Trust.

Mobile Technology Now Being Compared To An Orgasm ?!

Image
So I just read this post titled: "Texting Has The Same Effect As An Orgasm, That’s Why You’re Addicted" via Elite Daily Well first off I must say that comparing texting to an orgasm seems a bit extreme!? But I can only speak for myself, lol. What I can agree with in this Elite Daily post is the fact that... yes, one can become addicted to texting. There are times that I find myself attached to my iPhone throughout the day because I am literally "holding" a conversation with someone or some group chat.  Whether it be with a loved one or friend, the excitement associated with texting can satisfy some strange unfamiliar "need/want".  For me a lot of the time it is just the fact that I can get an instant response from another person without having to verbally communicate or completely stop what I am doing.  I find that the origins of these "needs/wants" can be out of boredom or serve an actual purpose. I also think that texting c

FKA Twigs peforms on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon

FKA Twigs performed "Two Weeks" on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. This song happens to be one of my favorites! The performance was unlike any I've seen before... this song has an avant-garde feel and sound... but I love the balance with the fabric flowing around her so gracefully just like her movements. She really is an amazing artist and... like always her edges are always laiddd lol...I like her style a lot! This is the official video for the song "Two Weeks" <3 Okkk! So I must say this video is a bit dark... but I don't find it to be demonic like one Youtuber commented. I still enjoyed the artistic approach in this video and the song is amazing as well! I also like the songs "Pendulum" and "Papi Pacify" ... her sound is different and I like different... Her new album EP.1 flows so well with my....

Cheers to Kendrick for this awesome, uplifting song!

Goddess

The whole Goddess album has been on constant rotation for the past month! Something about Banks voice and the instrumentals puts my mind at ease. I can listen to Banks anywhere, anytime. "You shoulda crowned her, cause she's a goddess You never got this" -Banks

Mu(sick)

"So can we turn up the volume, but turn down the noise Stop polluting the minds of our men and our boys With all the rude misogyny and bland homogeny Of rhymes and beats so crude and obsolete Cuz our ears are bleeding from all these cowards The time is ours, We are ready to devour Lyrics that make us feel empowered I know it’s a steep mountain to climb, It might take a while, but until that time I think I’d rather just spit my own rhymes..." by Madiha Bhatti http://youtu.be/ogCbwU4KGEY To read the full poem check out this link  http://uncsiren.com/musick/

Afro Punk Fest Bands

So last month I shared with you all that I will be going to the Afro Punk Fest  this month in Brooklyn. Well I'll be honest I do not know many bands that are on the line-up besides  Lianne La Havas and SZA . But a few days ago I checked out the line-up again and I noticed that Lolawolf was on the line-up too! Not like I know many of their songs, but I do know Zoe Kravitz and who doesn't like Zoe Kravitz? Skimming thru the line-up I seen that A Tribe Called Red will be playing after Lianne La Havas so out of curiosity I googled them and came across these awesome songs... http://youtu.be/_zH9wHWMi_k http://youtu.be/QbrvwaVXJ48 A Tribe Called Red's sound is very unique its like EDM meets Native American chants...something like a tribal dubstep! Looking forward to this festival and I'll be with my Ride or Die aka My Ace aka My Dominican Mami bka as my best

So what happens to the "inglorious" fruits & vegetables?

The french supermarket chain Intermarché sought out the unattractive, imperfect, inglorious fruits and vegetables from their farmers and sold this produce in their stores at a 30% discounted price. In this video a farmer expresses that they toss all the produce that doesn't fit the "norm".  Can you imagine all the food that goes to waste? I think Intermarché came up with a brilliant idea to help reduce food waste. The supermarket chain also creates soups and juices from these "inglorious" fruits and veggies. The European Union has decided that 2014 will be the year against food waste , it would be awesome if other supermarkets and countries worldwide hop on this bandwagon!  I know I'd buy an awkward looking carrot or eggplant if it was being sold at a discounted price! video link:  http://youtu.be/p2nSECWq_PE

Got Moringa?

Image
Last year Jared and I started reading up and eventually planted a moringa tree in our yard. Within months of being planted into the ground the tree began to grow quickly. We add moringa to everything smoothies, juices, stir-fry and as garnish to just about anything. It is definitely a great boost and has a whole lot of nutritional benefits.   Now if you can't find fresh moringa leaves in your area don't worry there are moringa powders, salves, lotion and I've even seen a moringa hair conditioner online. Check my amazon store with links to buy Moringa here -->>  http://astore.amazon.com/missfunkadelic-20?_encoding=UTF8&node=18 Jared also created a Moringa Facebook Page to help spread the knowledge and love to our friends and family. The most spacious 425 sq. ft loft in NYC!

Image
This has to be the best use of 425 sq. ft ever! I love the modern designs of this space and the fact that this is a 3 tier loft! I personally would of liked a bit more kitchen counter space but I love the outside veranda on the top floor! This is definitely a space for a couple with out kids...or can be thee ideal bachelor pad. This space is located in New York's Upper West Side and was sold for $95,000 back in 1994, I am sure today that price can be quadrupled.  via Curbed via Curbed via Curbed via Curbed via Curbed via Curbed via Curbed

Rest Days Are Important

Rest days are important...right? Well unless they are 2-3 days straight. Then it kind of turns into a break lol.  Been very busy working on other projects around the house haven't done much exercising or crafting.  I see a cleanse in my near future... I think I just found a new "youtuber" that I like.... http://youtu.be/idPmyMSMypY http://youtu.be/FFyo3s6DQFw

Get fit in 5 mins!

Image
So I found this pre-shower workout on GlistenFit.com  and I am looking forward to doing this tomorrow. It is time for me to kick it into high gear... my birthday is around the corner!  via GlistenFit I will also be changing up my cardio workouts...I was running 2-3 miles every other day but that got boring real quick. I decided that I will do a series of sprints every few days, maybe a break down like ...  2 x 400m, 2 x 200m and 4 x 100m.  I think back to my high school and college sport years and I've always enjoyed sprinting and it is a great workout! So I've mapped out the distances around my neighborhood the other day using my Runkeeper App... I will update you guys with my progress next week!  via GlistenFit

Phone Safety Tips

Many people are skeptical about cell phone radiation and the potential harm, there has been quite a debate as to how safe cell phones are. Here are some tips you should consider when using your cell phone...

Retaining Moisture For Curly Hair

Image
The constant battle with natural curls is retaining moisture without having to wash your hair everyday.  Over the years I've figured out the perfect balance of products to use along with techniques ... which aid in moisture retention and allow me to go a few days without washing my hair. Some tips for wash day... -Part hair into 5 or 6 sections and finger detangle hair with organic coconut oil. Then hop in the shower and shampoo and condition as usual. The coconut oil aids in the detangling process by smoothing hair along with moisturizing your strands.  -For extra moisture use a plastic bag and cover your entire head, allowing coconut oil to sit for 15-30 mins. -After rinsing out the conditioner ring most of the water out of your hair... then part hair into 4 or 5 sections and apply quarter sized amounts of organic coconut oil to semi wet hair being sure to moisture ends too. Then two strand twist or braid each section and finish your bathing routine.  -Someti

Va$htie Kola shares her beauty secrets and favorite products

Image
The "Jane of All Trades" Vashtie Kola shares some of her favorite beauty products with Into The Gloss . She also mentions that she looks up her beauty products on the EWG's Skin Deep Database ! I've mentioned the Environmental Working Group's website before in a few post check them out here , here and here . This database is awesome because it breaks down the potential harm of each ingredient, along with rating the risk 1 - 10. How awesome is that? via ITG via ITG Vashtie shares her approach with beauty products... "But my approach to beauty is how I am with food and everything else. I’m super organic and green, I’m all about it. I’ll do research for products on Safe Cosmetics Database . They rate everything on a scale from 1-10 from least to most toxins. For example, I wear contact lenses so I looked up the most toxic brands of contact solution and actually the drugstore brand is the one that ranked the lowest. Sometimes you think, ‘Oh

Sweaty is the new sexy!

Image
Are you feeling sad, frumpy and fat?  I was too just 30 mins ago! But then I got motivated, threw on my running shoes and headed out the door.  I decided that I would run around my neighborhood for 20 mins. And guess what... I no longer feel sad, frumpy and fat... I feel sexy.  So sexy and confident that I decided to share my sweaty pic with you guys... =-p Sweaty is the new sexy! While jogging I selected the 90's playlist on iTunes and kept it pumping. Some days I enjoy running with music and some days I don't. Today I opted for music because I needed an extra push.  Sure 20 mins may not seem too impressive to the elite runner...  but guess what 20 mins beats 0 mins! And that my friends is progress ! Sooo, although I barely made through the last 2 mins of my jog tonight I feel accomplished and great knowing that I got active...because my six pack looks like a keg =\ lol While the tattoos below are quite impressive... those bellys look like thes

Natural Beauty and Hair Products

Image
So I just got my Vitacost box and it was full of goodies.. Gosh I am addicted to shopping on Vitacost Their prices are very affordable compared to my local health food store. There are a few items pictured that I've never tried... the Avalon Shave cream, the Alba Acne Scrub, the Jason Flaxseed Gel and the Aubrey Men's Deodorant (for my boyfriend). I have a feeling that I am going to love everything. Everything else are pretty much staples for me. I love the Alba Leave-In Conditioner.. it is amazing my hair responds so well to this product. I love the Aubrey Gel, it does not leave my hair dry like other gels. I once bought the Eco Styler Gel and my hair was extremely dry after using this gel for a few days. I was disgusted that I even bought the item being that it is no where near "natural". The Dr. Woods Liquid Black Soap is amazing... it doesn't over dry your skin and has a smell that I really like. Some people say the smell is too strong but I l

OK Go makes awesome music videos

So I am sure we all remember OK Go's hit song "Here it Goes Again" the video debuted in 2009 and was shot in one take with the band members doing an awesome routine on treadmills... The first time I seen this video I was so amazed I watched it again lol http://youtu.be/dTAAsCNK7RA And in their newest video "The Writing's On the Wall" the band again, shoots the entire video in one take! Just simply amazing! Of course I watched this video a few times already back to back and each time I catch something new. I love OK Go and their creativity! http://youtu.be/m86ae_e_ptU Here is another awesome video! http://youtu.be/MejbOFk7H6c

So today on Youtube I subscribed to the Nike Women channel, you should too...they have lots of great fitness videos along with other cool videos. I'm trying to get my summer body ready! I still have this spare tire around my waist  = / So after watching the fitness videos I came across Allyson's feature on Nice Kicks "Sneak Peek", this is a show that features lots of celebs and athletes, along with their grand sneaker collections. Maya Angelou Tribute

Image
Maya Angelou circa 1970 The phenomenal poet, activist and historian Maya Angelou was called home today at the age of 86. While this news is very sorrowful to hear... I think we can all agree that Maya Angelou has left the world in a better place than she found and she will be missed dearly. She connected with so many souls through her literacy works sharing her love and wisdom. I really wish I could of attended a lecture of hers, I am sure just being in Maya Angelou's presence was enlightening.
